jason-clarke While Brie Larson and Emilia Clarke continue to battle it out for the coveted Sarah Connor role in the “Terminator” reboot recently titled “Terminator: Genesis,” it looks like Paramount and Alan Taylor have zeroed in on their John Connor, and it’s not Tom Hardy. The Wrap reports Jason Clarke is now in early talks for the role, while the director and studio have differing ideas about who to cast as Sarah.

The film, which will also have a TV series tie-in, will feature a young Sarah Connor (indeed, younger than her future son John) as well as a young Kyle Reese and has been rumored to be set in the 1950s for at least one portion of events. The Wrap reports that while Taylor favors Clarke (Emilia), maybe in part because they’ve worked well together before when he directed her in “Game of Thrones,” Paramount want to put their chips on Larson, who they believe is a major rising star and who they’ve already cast in another high profile film, “The Gambler” with Mark Wahlberg. A decision could come as early as this week, as the holds on both actresses expire on December 15th. After that, the search for Kyle will commence, with Nicholas Hoult, Garrett Hedlund and Taylor Kitsch rumored to be in contention.

Clarke is one of our Faces to Watch in 2013 after impressing last year in John Hillcoat’s “Lawless” and particularly Kathryn Bigelow’s “Zero Dark Thirty.” This year he’s already starred in “The Great Gatsby” and “White House Down” and he recently wrapped “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” as well as “Child 44.” His future projects are just as action-driven, with crime thriller “Candy Store” and disaster flick “Everest” awaiting production.
